"Wave of Hope" - Event Details

About the Event
The Wave of Hope Sanibel Beach Walk for Kids Cancer Care, hosted by the Sanibel~Captiva Optimist Club, will be held at Bowman's Beach on Sanibel Island.
Join us for a 5k walk on one of Sanibel’s most spectacular beaches! Free T-shirts, water, and refreshments will be provided. Parking is free!
The Cause
Cancer is still a leading cause of death in children under the age of 15, second only to accidents. The Sanibel~Captiva Optimist Club is proud to announce all proceeds from this event will benefit Barbara's Friends - The Children's Hospital Cancer Fund at Lee Memorial Hospital. The Children's Hospital is located within the Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida. The proceeds will also benefit F.I.S.H. of Sanibel.
Registration
Pre-registration is $25 pp. On walk day, registration is $30 pp. Children under 10 accompanied by an adult walk for free. Each participant receives a free Wave of Hope tshirt.
Charity Fundraising
Make your walk experience more meaningful by raising money for Kids Cancer Care! Each kilometer you walk (up to 5K) raises more money, and
PRIZES will be awarded to participants who raise the most! All proceeds go directly to F.I.S.H. of Sanibel and Barbara's Friends - The Children's Hospital Cancer Fund at
Lee Memorial Hospital.
Directions
Upon entering Sanibel Island on Causeway Boulevard, turn right on Periwinkle Way. Turn right on
Palm Ridge Road which turns into Sanibel-Captiva Road. Go about 5 miles to Bowman's Beach Road and
turn left. This will take you to Bowman's Beach park.

If the weather is hot or humid you should drink plenty of water and reduce your pace. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are serious and life threatening conditions. If you should feel dizzy, light headed, ill, chilled or stop sweating, stop walking immediately and seek assistance from a volunteer. Drink at least one to two cups of water before the walk and drink at each water stop.
While at Sanibel...
- Enjoy! Don't Destroy!
- Avoid disturbing and stay well clear of all nesting birds and sea turtles
- Take all litter to a check-in station for disposal
- Live shelling prohibited
- No feeding wild birds
- Please leash and clean up after your dog
