Sanibel Captiva 4TH Of July Road Rally
After many delays and considerations, we have received approval to hold our annual 4th of July weekend road rally on July 3rd!
With such a short time to arrange and plan the rally, we are truly fortunate to have sponsors to allow us to have a traditional rally. We will provide T-shirts as part of the registration fee, one for each team, so be sure to indicate size/type on the registration form. As usual, additional T-shirts will be available for purchase at the starting line. There will be prizes for winning entries. All the fun of former rallies will be there including an after rally party!

Sanibel-Captiva Optimist Club’s longest-running 4th of July event on Sanibel Island celebrates 41 years of fun for teams and families as they puzzle out clues while following a prescribed driving course around the Island. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated vehicle and for the team coming from the farthest away. Fun for everyone!
HOW IT WORKS

Registration forms are also available at the starting line. The registration fee at the starting line is $50 (credit cards accepted).
Entry Fee includes: Car, Driver, Navigator, Unlimited Crew, and one Official Road Rally T-Shirt (Additional T-Shirts will be available for $15.00). The number of entries is limited to 50, so register early.
Choose your team (a driver, navigator, and spotters are usual). Teams are encouraged to decorate their rally cars in any way they like and prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated vehicle. Please ensure that vehicle decorations do not impair driver visibility or create unsafe conditions for your team, other vehicles, pedestrians, or local wildlife.
Participants will begin their quest at Timbers Restaurant 703 Tarpon Bay Road, Sanibel (one-half block north of Bailey’s General Store) and follow a prescribed route around the island. Along the route teams will find and follow clues, answer questions about things seen along the route, and try to complete the rally in a timely and efficient manner. Starting times are every two minutes beginning at 12 NOON on July 3th.

Teams are awarded points for the most correct answers to the Rally questions (based on sights seen along the designated route), for a finish time closest to the committee’s calculated times, for mileage driven closest to predetermined route distance, and for correct answers to extra credit questions. (Clues to extra credit questions will be published in local newspapers in the weeks prior to the Rally. Copies of the newspapers, along with Rally rules and instructions are provided to participants at the starting line.)
